Many expats come to the Hague and don’t pick up the Dutch language. It’s easy to get by in English, with most local people speaking English and it being the common international business language.

Yet, I’m making an effort to learn the local language.

By speaking their language, even if it’s just a few phrases or with a few grammar errors, I show that I value their culture and am willing to make an effort to connect on a deeper level. By appreciating these distinctive language quirks, we not only demonstrate cultural understanding but also create a welcoming environment that encourages collaboration and rapport.
